This article explains how to use "lie", "lay" and "laid" correctly.

The difference between "affect" and "effect" is explained here.

If you have any others to add, feel free to post!

Lisa,
I can't think of one.
I've never had much problem with similar words. My problem lies in spelling them.
Sometimes I'll spell them wrong but know better. Of Course the spell checker can't find it because it's a real word.
Simple stuff like; no and know, even Ben and been. Once I get tired who knows what may come of my fingers?
But the true meanings are not a problem.

Do you know when to use compared with rather than compared to?

I do. My friend Google told me.

Haven't a clue actually...

There's something I get confused on...well, one of many things actually...this is a line from one of my poems...

"Time with someone for which I care,"

Should it be "whom" instead of "which?"

"Who, whom, which"...all those "wh-words" confuse the heck out of me...

If spell checker does not help, try using an internet search engine. Try various spellings. The search engine will help. You can also get a definition of the word to make sure you are using it properly. I managed to get through high school and college with nothing but a manual typewriter and a dictionary, but personal computers, word processing, and the internet are invaluable helps to a writer.

Hey thanks PrivateRickmers.
Sounds to me like some sound advise. Now if I can remember all that. I know it's not much,
but these things are confusing to me. More so than confusing words.

I did manage to come up with one that gets me every time; wind and wind.
Every time I write; I got up to wind the clock, I look at it and think; this can't be right.
I'll never understand why somebody couldn't come up with a better way to spell wind.
If I had it my way, I'd spell it winde, or something like that
