A periwinkle candle for a friend whom I have not spoken with since before she graduated. I'm not certain she still counts me as a friend of hers... we parted on bad terms and were not able to clear the air before she graduated, but I miss her as one of my best friends and hope she is doing better now than she was then. You will find that many of my Eating Disorder awareness pieces speak of a particular person. The person is her.

A green candle for another friend who has just gone off to college. Lit with the hope that she studies hard and does well, and moves up in the world, but does not forget us little people.

A pink candle for my grandma who has recently lost two brothers within a week of each other. She's still smiling and laughing, but, like the rest of us, misses those who have passed a lot.

A yellow candle for all those whom I love, on and offline, in the hopes that they are healthy and doing well wherever they are in the world, and that they know I love them.

I will light a candle for any person going through conflict in their personal life. My prayer for you is that it be resolved amicably and that life continues along a much happier pathway.

For Alistair. My boy. We tried so hard but nothing was going to save you. You were so perfect, you were already an Angel. You are my Angel.

I LIGHT many candles for the fine people of KENYA. Our dear friend AriesDragon (who just recently closed her account here) had this message to me on Facebook this evening.

"Light a candle for my country, in the forums tonight Rick...
we are safe, for the time being, there are many more threats and we never know where the next one will be. we have a long journey inland tomorrow, back up to the farm. I home there will not be fresh attacks in the morning"

Please keep her and her family ... and ALL peace loving folk ... in your deepest good thoughts and prayers.

Rick

As a matter of fact, I was just thinking about her, as I came to this thread. I hope she and her loved ones are and will be safe. I'm not religious, but I'll light that candle for them anyway.

Hayley Okines, who had a disease called Progeria. She accomplished a lot in her short life, and if it wasn't for her, a lot of people would never have heard of Progeria.

Walter Denesha and Nick Konkler. One was murdered a couple years ago, the other passed a couple months ago due to leukemia. I didn't know either myself, but I was friends with Walter's older sister, and, the last year of Nick's life, I FELT like I knew him. My whole school came together--I've NEVER seen that before--to support him and his family. If I had had the money, I'd have given as much as I could to help him win his fight for the THIRD time, but I don't know if that would have been enough.

Sadly, deaths of wonderful children with hearts of gold happen almost daily. Doesn't our higher power (whoever you believe in: Allah, the Christian God, the Pagan God and Goddess or some other God or Goddess or higher being) understand that we need MORE of these selfless, loving people in our world- not less?

I wish to light a candle for all the hurt in the world.
For my two dear friends that are hurting from the loss of love ones
for my friend that just lost her baby.
and for all the people that don't know what a true friend is.
I wish to light a candle for the senator.
